CHRIS ADKINS
(OWNER / DESIGNER)
Chris Adkins is an Atlanta based jewelry designer with an edgy style and a creative sense that transpires into fashionable jewelry. But, Adkins did not immediately fall in to a jewelry career. In fact, he has spent the past few years playing poker both professionally and for fun. While that has always been a passion of his, there is an artistic side to him that many people don’t know. However, his tattoos, which cover his body from head to toe had always been his creative outlet, expressing artistic ideas through ink.
With an entirely different lifestyle and change of career, he works on a daily basis with his artistic talents, putting his math and poker talents to rest for a bit. His transition from seemingly opposite careers happened pretty rapidly, although smoothly for Chris. Always placing a high importance on fashion and style, he started to acquire more and more accessories, such as rosary’s and bracelets. He would match each one to his outfits. And then, one day, he just started to make his own. He wanted more options and better quality. With his creative thinking always hidden on the poker felt, he found that creating jewelry was a means to express his artistic and creative talents with others. Soon after making a few pieces, people and celebrities, such as Ne-Yo, were taking notice and wearing his beads. Thus, Thirteen Crowns was born into his Royal family.
Self taught, he started by creating a simple, yet tedious rosary and from there began experimenting with different styles, colors, stones and designs. To Chris, quality is the cornerstone of Thirteen Crowns jewelry. Chris values the handmade quality of each piece of jewelry he creates. In fact, you will never see the same things twice. For his one–of-a kind pieces, he uses, raw gem stones, sterling silver, gold and a mix of other stones and vintage pieces to make an assortment of men’s and women’s necklaces and bracelets.
Crowning his ideas, he wants his jewelry to make people feel like royalty at an affordable price. That is what Thirteen Crowns is all about. And, don’t be fooled by his tough exterior; Chris has a huge heart and lives for helping others. He is especially active in the fight against breast cancer, contributing a portion of his October sales to the cause and to Autism awareness, an illness his son was diagnosed with this year.
In the rare time that Chris is not playing poker or making jewelry, he loves to spend time with his dog and his two children, Lily and Chase. In fact, he has been known to spend hours at Toys R’Us buying enough legos to build a castle for his little prince and princess.
